| Dec 18th: Recently, the Black Eyed Peas had a big Hollywood launching of their dance video game. Yong Chavez caught up with Apl and the the rest of the Peas before they mingled with their guests at the event. The Black Eyed Peas has withstood disbanding rumors for the longest time, but they dispel naysayers by always coming up with group projects aside from their individual career and personal endeavors.
"The thing about is, we started as friends, we're not ending. We just support each other. We have so much respect for our personal endeavors. We're the strongest family on the planet," Apl's bandmate, Taboo, said. To which Apl heartily replied, "Yes, we are."
After his performing commitments, Apl says he's looking forward to his Christmas vacation in the Philippines. Here's more from our red-carpet chat:
Yong Chavez: Kumusta? (How are you?)
apl.de.ap: Mabuti. Kumusta? (Good. How are you?)
YC: Did you ever imagine growing up in Sapang Bato (a small town in the Philippines) that one day you'll have your own video game?
ADA: No, but it feels great, I'm blessed. I remember playing Galaga on Atari, and now we have our own avatar and our own dance moves. Our own game. It's just amazing.
YC: What are your holiday plans?
ADA: Of course, I always go back in the Philippines for Christmas. I'll be spending it with my family. Me and my mom do our food drive every Christmas in front of my house, so that's gonna be great.
YC: What has been your most memorable Christmas experience in the Philippines?
ADA: Oh, you know the parols (Christmas lanterns), yung mga kalamay (rice cakes) and simbang gabi (dawn Mass), and just being with my family. Waking up at four in the morning to get ready for church. That's always a great feeling.
YC: Would you like to continue those traditions in your own family?
ADA: Of course. Of course. As a Filipino that's always going to be in my heart. I make sure to spend time in the Philippines every year because it's just so much more festive.
YC: I know, right? And what are you most thankful for this year?
ADA: I'm thankful for my family, I'm thankful for my dad, Joe Ben Hudgens, for adopting me and giving me this opportunity to provide for my family. And sa Diyos (to God).
YC: What's in store for you for the next year?
ADA: I'll be working on a side project, a solo album. And also I got a campaign called "We Can Be Anything" and the focus is building extra classrooms because, you know, there's a shortage of classrooms in the Philippines. I want to improve the education there.
